Volaris and Viva Aerobus agree merger plan, reshaping Mexican low-cost aviation

Volaris and Viva Aerobus plan a merger of equals to form a larger airline group, combining scale while keeping separate brands and operations.
Volaris and Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s two largest ultra low cost carriers, have announced plans to merge under a new holding company, a deal expected to close in 2026 pending regulatory approvals. The merger of equals will create a combined airline group while retaining the individual brands, operating certificates, and day to day operations of both carriers. Together they control roughly 3 quarters of Mexico’s domestic market and a large share of international traffic to the United States.
