New York’s MTA ordered 45 additional Wabtec R255 hybrid locomotives worth $386 million to modernise transit maintenance with cleaner, more efficient systems.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York has exercised an option to purchase 45 more R255 hybrid battery-diesel work locomotives from Wabtec in a follow-on order valued at about $386 million as part of its Capital Plan to upgrade transit infrastructure. These state of the art locomotives combine battery power with diesel engines, enabling maintenance crews to eliminate emissions in tunnels and move work trains when third-rail power is de-energized.
