Centre says reopening HAL Airport needs consent from Bengaluru airport operator

The Centre said HAL Airport cannot reopen for civilian use without BIAL consent under the existing concession agreement governing Bengaluru’s main airport.
The Union government has clarified that reopening the existing HAL Airport in Bengaluru for civilian operations would require consent from Bengaluru International Airport Limited under the prevailing concession agreement. The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed Parliament that no airport development or reopening within 150 km of Kempegowda International Airport is permitted before it completes 25 years of operations in May 2033, except for select domestic airports.
