Microsoft sets strict safety threshold for advanced AI development

Microsoft AI chief Mustafa Suleyman said the company will abandon any AI system that risks losing human control, setting clear safety red lines for future development.
Microsoft’s AI chief Mustafa Suleyman has said the company will stop developing any artificial intelligence system that shows signs of operating beyond human control. Speaking after a revised OpenAI agreement, Suleyman noted that Microsoft now has greater freedom to pursue advanced AI independently. He emphasised a focus on what he calls humanist superintelligence, where containment and alignment are mandatory before deployment. Microsoft has also formed a new superintelligence team, intensifying competition with OpenAI, Google, Meta, and Anthropic.
