Wall Street caps holiday week with fresh record for the S&P 500
US stocks held firm after Christmas, with the S&P 500 hitting a record high and all major indices heading toward solid weekly gains.
US equity markets remained resilient in post holiday trade as the S&P 500 touched a new record high and stayed on course for a strong weekly finish. Although the index eased slightly intraday, it was still up more than 1% for the week, marking its fourth weekly gain in five. The Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average also posted week-to-date gains exceeding 1%.
