India faces a comparatively lower risk of AI-led disruption to cognitive and white-collar jobs than Western economies, according to IT secretary S Krishnan. He attributed this to India’s smaller share of white-collar employment and the dominance of STEM-based roles across sectors. Krishnan said AI’s biggest impact will come from building and deploying sector-specific applications, which will require a large pool of trained professionals.
