Commercial flight operations commenced at on Thursday, December 25, 2025, marking a significant expansion of aviation capacity for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The first scheduled service, operated by from Bengaluru, landed at 8 a.m., signalling the airport’s operational debut. The arriving aircraft received a ceremonial water cannon salute, traditionally reserved for inaugural flights. Officials said the launch will help decongest Mumbai’s primary airport, improve regional connectivity, and support long term passenger and cargo growth as air travel demand continues to rise across western India.
