Revised and updated ITR filings cross major milestone for AY 2025-26
Over 15 lakh revised returns and 21 lakh updated ITRs have been filed for AY 2025-26, yielding ₹2,500 crore, as tax authorities tighten compliance and issue advisories.
Income tax compliance activity has picked up pace as more than 15 lakh taxpayers have already filed revised returns for the assessment year 2025-26, according to the Income Tax Department. In addition, over 21 lakh individuals have opted to file updated income tax returns during the current fiscal, contributing nearly ₹2,500 crore in additional tax payments. With the deadline for revised returns set for December 31, taxpayers will need to shift to the updated ITR route from January 1 for any corrections.
