World Bank reaffirms support for Bhutan’s 1,125 MW Dorjilung hydropower project
World Bank boosts support for Bhutan’s flagship hydropower project to drive energy exports and jobs.
On 9 November 2025, the World Bank’s Vice-President for South Asia concluded a five-day visit to Bhutan and reaffirmed institutional backing for the 1,125 MW Dorjilung hydropower project, the kingdom’s largest hydropower initiative.

The project is a public-private partnership aimed at boosting Bhutan’s energy exports, creating jobs, and enhancing fiscal resilience.

The World Bank said it would mobilise resources across its institutions (IDA, IBRD, IFC) to support the nation’s development roadmap, including hydropower, job creation and clean energy infrastructure.
