A severe weather event hit India’s east coast overnight as Cyclone Montha made landfall around midnight, claiming the life of a 48-year-old woman when a palm tree fell on her in Andhra Pradesh’s Konaseema district. The storm brought heavy rainfall and gusts of up to 90 km/h across Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal, damaging over 38,000 ha of crops and uprooting utility poles. Restoration efforts are underway, with authorities urging residents in low-lying coastal zones to stay alert and evacuate if needed.
