Google to build a $15 billion AI data-centre complex in Visakhapatnam, India

Google LLC has announced plans to invest around US$15 billion over the next five years to develop a 1-gigawatt-scale AI data-centre hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with the Adani Group and Bharti Airtel Ltd.. The site is strategically located to leverage subsea cable connectivity serving over 15 countries across Asia and Oceania. The project is expected to create over 6,000 direct jobs and supports India’s ambition to scale data-centre capacity to 6 GW by 2029. The development raises environmental-impact considerations given the large power and water footprint of such centres.
