U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent accused China of using restrictions on critical minerals as economic weapons, claiming intentional harm to global supply chains. He warned these moves could provoke Western investment to scale alternative refining capacities. China had recently added five rare earth elements to its export control list.
